Cayenne pepper is a hot, red chili pepper used in cooking spicy dishes. The pepper us generally dried and ground, or pulped and baked into cakes, which are then ground and sifted to make the powdered spice known as cayenne pepper.

Hot and pungent, cayenne complements many southwestern and Cajun dishes including crab and lobster. It has also been prised as a powerful medicine for thousands of years for its healing powers.
